Inorganic Chemistry

The Discipline of Inorganic Chemistry of Jilin University was established in 1952. It is one of the first national key disciplines in China (1988) and one of the key disciplines of the “211 Project” (1995). In 2002, it was appraised as a national key discipline again. In 2006, the first-level discipline of chemistry at Jilin University was awarded the national key discipline. The discipline has the first batch of doctoral degree authorization (1984) and post-doctoral research center (1995).

The cultivation direction of Inorganic Chemistry is mainly function-oriented, focusing on the chemical essence, the relationship between performance and structure, and the transformation law in complex systems, such as the design of new functional molecules with specific structures, functional systems of condensed and aggregated molecules, controllable synthesis, preparation and transformation, and the establishment of new environmentally friendly chemical systems.

(1) Methodology of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparation and Assembly Chemistry

It mainly develops the synthesis and preparation methodologies of inorganic functional materials, including hydrothermal synthesis chemistry, solvothermal synthesis chemistry, assembly synthesis chemistry, high-pressure synthesis chemistry, and so on. The characterization platform of structure and properties of inorganic materials and the research platform of extreme condition synthesis were established.

(2) Mechanism and Theory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry

It mainly develops the theoretical design method of inorganic solid structure. The establishment of efficient computational methods and software for structural design, the database of synthesis and structure of inorganic porous materials, the development of computer-aided synthesis design methodology, and the study of structure-oriented synthesis of various porous materials.

(3) Synthesis and Preparation of Inorganic Solid Functional Materials

Mainly carry out function-oriented, transition metal oxides as the main research object, control electronic state as the core, use chemical reaction to build special structural units at the atomic level, especially focus on the relationship between surface interface microstructure and properties of solid functional materials.

At present, the specific research directions include molecular engineering of inorganic porous crystal materials; Inorganic solid chemistry; Porous polymer materials and their applications; High pressure and hydrothermal synthesis chemistry; Chemistry of nanomaterial; Biomimetic material chemistry; Synthesis and Application of Inorganic Self-assembly Multifunctional Materials; Inorganic-organic hybrid materials; Photovoltaic function and energy conversion materials; Molecular sieve and green chemistry; Cluster chemistry; The synthesis of porphyrin compounds.

Inorganic Chemistry is composed of the State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry and the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, with academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and doctoral supervisors as academic leaders, a group of outstanding young and middle-aged doctorates as the backbone, and a relatively reasonable teaching and research team in echelon structure. The existing research team has been selected as the innovation research group of the National Fund Committee (2001, 2016) and the innovation team of the “Yangtze River Scholars and Innovation Team Development Plan” of the Ministry of Education (2010).

The direction of inorganic chemistry cultivation has distinct characteristics in the research field of porous materials and hydrothermal synthesis chemistry. The State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry is one of the earliest hydrothermal research units in China, which has greatly promoted the popularization and development of hydrothermal synthesis chemistry in China. Chair of the International Association for Hydrothermal and Solvothermal Research, the highest international academic organization in the field of hydrothermal chemistry (Feng Shouhua, 2013-present). Council Member of International Zeolite Association, the highest international academic organization for porous materials (Xu Ruren, 1998-2004; Qiu Shilun, 2004-2010; Yu Jihong, 2013-2019). Among the published monographs, Inorganic Synthesis and Preparation Chemistry and Molecular Sieve and Porous Material Chemistry have been used as professional courses and graduate textbooks in domestic universities, which has promoted the education of inorganic synthesis chemistry and porous materials in China. This training direction has been built into a scientific research center and talent cultivation base of inorganic chemistry with important international influence.
